GeoGebra
GeoGebra is free dynamic mathematics software for all levels of education that joins arithmetic, geometry, algebra and calculus. It offers multiple representations of objects in its graphics, algebra, and spreadsheet views that are all dynamically linked. The idea behind GeoGebra is to connect geometric, algebraic, and numeric representations in an interactive way. You can do constructions with points, vectors, lines, conic sections as well as functions and change them dynamically afterwards. Furthermore, GeoGebra allows you to directly enter and manipulate equations and coordinates. Thus you can easily plot functions, work with sliders to investigate parameters, find symbolic derivatives, and use powerful commands like Root or Sequence.
Voice Threads/Blogging
VoiceThreads is an instant online collaboration tool - but unlike traditional blogging, collaboration centers around inter-twined multimedia objects. A VoiceThread is an online 'slide show' which can contain images, videos or any other type of document and allows multiple users to collaborate and discuss (both in text and speech) the thread as individual pieces, or in its entirety. If you already have a blog - embedding VoiceThreads is easy! We'll cover the basics of the free version - all you need is an internet connection, there is no software to download!
Xplorer GLX
The Xplorer GLX is a portable graphing datalogger, perfect for real-time data collection and analysis in the classroom or in the field. It provides convenient and powerful data collection, display and analysis -- even without a computer. The GLX includes 4 built-in sensors: 2 temperature sensors, voltage sensor, speaker and sound sensor and connects up to 4 additional sensors. It also functions as a computer interface for labs with computers. The GLX comes with a lab manual contain 20-35 labs for each area: biology, chemistry, earth science, physics, advanced physics, and general science.
SmartBoards
How smart can a SmartBoard be?
A SmartBoard is an interactive whiteboard that provides touch control of computer applications and annotation over standard Microsoft applications. SmartBoards compliment a teacher’s desire of interactive learning in the classroom, engaging students, as well as saving time. Information can be displayed via interactive text, images, sound, and video files. The included software, SMART Notebook, allows teachers to record student progress and easily create PDFs and PowerPoint’s of the lesson. The SmartBoard includes four digital pens (that replace the usual chalk/marker), allowing the user to add additional hand written marks or drawings.
We are pleased to announce that June Hodge, a Smart Certified Trainer for SmartEd Services, will be on hand to present the SmartBoard technology. June will be available to answer any additional questions you may have in regards to acquiring the necessary equipment, software, etc or any other SmartBoard related questions.
CAD
Design in CAD
This will be a presentation on how to use some of the basic features of Solidworks design software. It will incorperate some ideas on how to bring Computer Aided Design (CAD) software into the classroom. Teachers and students can use CAD to design objects, draft plans, and/or create engineering drawings in 2-D or 3-D.
SQL
Take charge of your data.
SQL, Structured-Query Language, is a database computer language designed for managing data in a relational database management system. SQL is a universal language that can be used on any database platform such as Microsoft Access. Do you have too much data to review by hand from an experiment? Do you want to see any correlation in your data quickly? SQL allows you to quickly manage, manipulate, and retrieve data. Learn the basics of SQL to manage and control your data.
