Participants
There are various kinds of contributors to the STEP program.
Principal Investigators
The NSF STEP PIs are faculty members at the university from the College
of Engineering and the College of Education who wrote the NSF STEP proposal
during the 2001-2002 school year. They continue to support the fellows
and guide the direction of the grant through bi-weekly meetings and seminars
with the fellows.
Faculty Advisors
Each NSF STEP Fellow has a faculty advisor who assists the fellow with
ideas and content for the activities they develop. In addition to being
a part of this project, the faculty advisors also advise the Fellows through
their course of study and research.
Graduate Fellows
The NSF STEP Fellows are graduate students from the college of engineering
and the college of education. In addition to their research and coursework,
they are the link between the university and the secondary schools. The
fellows spend about ten hours a week working at the secondary schools
with teachers in their classrooms teaching and helping out. They also
spend an equal amount of time in educational training (either in class
or working together to develop activities for the schools).
Coordinators
The Grant and Evaluation Coordinators serve as liaisons between the Fellows,
the schools, and the Principal Investigators.
Secondary Schools
There are five secondary schools currently involved in the grant. Four
are located in the Cincinnati School District, and one is in the Northern
Ketucky School District.
Secondary Teachers
The NSF STEP Teachers are math and science teachers in the greater Cincinnati
area secondary schools. The teachers are instrumental in the educational
training of the fellows, constantly giving them feedback. The teachers
provide content ideas for the activities which are implemented by the
fellows.
Oversight Committee
The oversight committee consists of four members of the community with
interest in math and science education. These four people attend the yearly
open house and advise the direction of the grant. They read the annual
report and make suggestions for improvement.
Technology Team
The technology team is responsible for the website and any necessary technologies
for the project. They ensure that the website is current, develop custom
software necessary for the program, and assist the other participants
with technology-related issues.
Previous Fellows
Fellows (both graduate and undergraduate) that have worked with Project
STEP but have since graduated or left the project are listed here.
International Contacts
This team represent all members working directly or indirectly with the team in Tanzania.
