Dr. Paul Bishop (Faculty Advisor)

In addition to his role within the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Dr. Bishop serves as the University Associate Vice President for Research, is on the Governor's Energy Task Force, and recently received an appointment to the National Science Foundation as Environmental Engineering Program Director. Dr. Bishop's research interests include biological treatment of hazardous organics, particularly using biofilms; study of mass transport and biodegradation in biofilms using microelectrodes; solidification/stabilization of hazardous wastes; and industrial pollution prevention. His lab group has completed 89 funded research projects totaling over $15 million. Publications include 6 books, 40 book chapters, 160 refereed publications, 200 proceedings publications, and 142 unpublished presentations. In 2005, Dr. Bishop received the Association of Environmental Engineering and Science Professors (AEESP) Frontiers in Research Award, and in 2006 he received the International Water Association (IWA) Outstanding Service Award.
