Biography
As an undergraduate at the University of Cincinnati, I majored in
civil/environmental engineering with a specialty in structural
engineering. I co-oped for Parsons Brinckerhoff (PB), an infrastructure
consulting firm. As a master's student at the University of Cincinnati,
I was a teacher's assistant for courses ranging from freshman
introductory to graduate level. My thesis focused on
precast/prestressed concrete I-girder bridges. After receiving my
master's degree I went back to work at PB full time as a structural
engineer. I analyzed, designed, and inspected retaining walls and
bridges. I have chosen to go back to the University of Cincinnati to
earn a Ph.D. to ultimately become a professor of engineering. The STEP
program is the perfect opportunity to not only supplement my own
education and research, but to spend time with students. Because of my
work experience I have a "real world" element that I can pass on the
students. I would like to show them that engineering is a feasible,
realistic goal. I would also like the opportunity to showcase the
different facets of engineering and their importance in our world.
