Biography
Andy has lived in the Cincinnati area all his life. He attended Glen Este
High School, which is one of the schools participating in the STEP program.
After high school, he attended Ohio University in the college of engineering.
When he entered college he was unsure what field he wanted to study, but
he knew it would be something within engineering. He decided to start
with mechanical engineering, but after some time he found it was not to
his liking. He decided to switch to civil engineering after his sophomore
year because he was more interested in the types of work civil engineers
do. In addition to his major of civil engineering, he was very close to
a minor in physics. He would very much have liked to finish the requirements
for it, but could not due to the need to make up courses after changing
majors. During his senior year at Ohio University, he began looking into
graduate school requirements and possible schools to attend. Being from
Cincinnati, the University of Cincinnati was at the top of that list.
He was accepted for study here in the Structural Engineering Masters Degree
program and informed of the STEP project. He immediately noticed that
the program addresses some of the negative memories he had of high school,
so he was very happy to be informed that he was accepted to partake.
