Biography
As an undergraduate at Thomas More College, Bethany majored in biology
with a minor in chemistry. While at Thomas More, she participated in
undergraduate research on microbes that infect Cystic Fibrosis patients,
served as a resident assistant in the residence halls, and was a four-year
starter for the women's basketball team. Bethany is currently a second year
graduate student completing her Master of Science degree in biology. Her
research focuses on genetics education and initiatives to increase the general
public's knowledge of genetics and genetic technologies. For the past two years
she has been teaching undergraduate biology laboratories and assisting in genetics
courses. In the fall of 2004 she will begin doctoral studies in the interdisciplinary
program combining biology and education. As a STEP Fellow, she hopes to use her
knowledge and enthusiasm of the sciences to promote science education in local schools.
