Biography
As an undergraduate at Miami University, I majored in zoology and minored
in both anthropology and Italian. After graduation, I joined Teach For
America, and was placed as a science teacher in an underprivileged, rural
Louisiana school. During my year there, I taught chemistry, physics, and
environmental science, initiated and facilitated an after-school ACT study
group, headed the science department, and worked with school-wide technology
and science curriculum improvement committees. After returning to Ohio,
I began the necessary coursework for entrance to the University of Cincinnati
as a graduate student in structural engineering. I spent four quarters
as, essentially, a night-school student, acquiring an engineering background
while working for a UC-affiliated civil and environmental engineering
research group. I am currently working on my master’s degree in
civil engineering, with a focus in structures. My thesis work involves
using computer models to assess the health of steel girder highway bridge
systems.
