Biography
Tamra received her Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Kentucky
State University in 1992. She completed her Master’s degree and
teacher certification requirements in 1994. She taught high school mathematics
courses including Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II for 7 years; two
years in suburban schools and five years in urban schools prior to attending
UC. During this time she held the position of Math Department Chair while
at Colonel White High School, trained Dayton Public School mathematics
teachers, and conducted workshops on math anxiety for the Cleveland Ohio
State Young Scholars. She also taught diverse student populations through
full-time and part-time teaching, including college-level mathematics
and summer programs for middle and high school students. She is currently
enrolled as a second-year, full-time doctoral student, and is particularly
interested in the math education of diverse student populations, urban
education, and the retention, recruitment, and training of quality mathematics
teachers. She has presented workshops at the National Council of Teachers
of Mathematics (NCTM) national conference in Orlando, FL; the Ohio Council
of Teachers of Mathematics in Dayton, OH; and the Greater Cincinnati Council
of Teachers of Mathematics in West Chester, OH. She was awarded National
Board Certification in Adult and Young Adolescent (AYA) Mathematics, and
has an 8-year professional certificate for Mathematics, grades 7-12. She
is a Reviewer for Mathematics Teacher magazine, and a member
of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM), the National
Council of Supervisors of Mathematics (NCSM), the Benjamin Banneker Association
(BBA), and the Women and Mathematics Education (WME).
