I am originally from North Canton, Ohio. I graduated in 2004 from Capital University in Columbus, Ohio with a Bachelor's degree in Biology. Following graduation, I spent 18 months teaching Marine Ecology at Forfar Environmental Research Facility located on Andros Island, Bahamas. Upon returning to the United States, I settled in Cincinnati and began a career in Biological / Medical research; working for the Cincinnati Children's Hospital Research Foundation, Shriners Burns Hospital, and the University of Cincinnati. Some of my research interests included viral vectors and epidermal stem cells. In 2008, decided to make the transition from academic research to education and enrolled in the Master's in Education plus Initial Teaching Licensure Program at UC. Starting in August 2009, I will be student teaching in a Biology classroom at Oak Hills High School. |

Kurt Whitford (Water – Project #1)
Kurt Whitford began teaching in 1998, as an intern in the U.C. C.I.T.E. program. In 1999, he accepted a position with West Clermont Schools, where he currently teaches Chemistry and A.P. Environmental Science in the District’s School for Scientific Studies. Mr. Whitford holds a B.A. degree in Biology from Wittenberg University and an M.S. in Aquatic Biology from Kent State University. His current student-led research includes the radiotracking of box turtle at the Cincinnati Nature Center. |

Sarah Woodward (Composite Materials – Project #3)
Sarah Woodward has a BS in Biological Science and is Certified in both Secondary Integrated Science as well as Career Technical Education for Biotechnology, Medical Lab Assisting and Medical Assisting. After working in the research field as a molecular biologist for 7 years, she decided to take the science of the lab into the classroom. She is currently the Program Facilitator for the Health Technologies Program at Woodward Career Technology High School, in the Cincinnati Public Schools. Sarah strives to find new ways to make science meaningful for her students by incorporating real life application and inquiry as a foundation for standards based instruction. |
