Summary
This three day activity provides an introduction to the fundamental concepts of sound through instruction, demonstrations and hands on activities. Various forms of technology are incorporated to provide learning from theoretical and practical perspectives.

Objectives
  • When presented with an audible sound, students will successfully predict how variations in frequency and amplitude alter the observed sound.
  • Students will properly relate the terms frequency and amplitude to pitch and loudness.
  • Given a sinusoidal wave, students will correctly identify critical features such as amplitude and wavelength.

Ohio Standards
  • Physical Sciences
    • Demonstrate that waves transfer energy
    • Demonstrate that vibrations in materials may produce waves that spread away from the source in all directions.
