Grade Level
7th
Subject Area
Life Science
Rationale
This module integrates science, technology, and engineering.
Author
Tamra Ragland, Rob Stowers

Objectives
This project will help you to learn more about types of pollution and its effects on the environment. You will learn about land (soil), water, and air pollution and what can be done to help keep the air, water and land clean. You will learn about its causes, effects and ways people can reduce forms of pollution.

Materials Required
3 types of water (A, B, C) with A having all water, B containing half water and half vinegar, and C containg 3/4 water and 1/4 vinegar, plants, beakers (use 30 ml) of liquid, Acid Rain Observations worksheet, and activity sheets.

Ohio Standards

Science

Explain that some environmental changes occur slowly while others occur rapidly (e.g., forest and pond succession, fires and decomposition).
2. Summarize the ways that natural occurrences and human activity affect the transfer of energy in Earth’s ecosystems (e.g., fire, hurricanes, roads, oil spills)
3. Explain that photosynthetic cells convert solar energy into chemical energy that is used to carry on life functions or is transferred to consumers and used to carry on their life functions.
