Cooperative Engineering Program (Co-op)

How Does Co-op Work?

Earning a baccalaureate degree from the College of Engineering takes five years to complete. Our co-op students participate on a year-round schedule that combines professionally-related work experiences with classroom coursework. The national average for earning an engineering degree is 4.8 year in traditional programs of study. At UC, most students complete the program in just 5 years and gain valuable on-the-job experience, too!

Between the second and fifth year of school, the program provides for three-month study periods alternating with three-month co-op assignments. The summer after the Freshman year is the only full summer vacation. A typical co-op year consists of 21 weeks of study, 26 weeks of industrial or professional experience, and five weeks of recess and vacation. The co-op structure is comprised of two alternating sections - Section I for Summer and Winter work quarters, and Secion II for Autumn and Spring work quarters.
