About the Ryan Fellowship

The Albert J. Ryan foundation was established in 1968 by Alice M. Ryan of Cincinnati in memory of her father. The purpose of the fellowship is to recognize and encourage the career development of students at Dartmouth College, Harvard University, and the University of Cincinnati who "show promise of becoming research scholars and who show a capacity to contribute to the advancement of knowledge of medical science". This is a very prestigious (and hence competitive) 2-year award given to a select number of students in the second or third year of graduate school. Students who are chosen as Albert J. Ryan Foundation Fellows attend an annual three-day meeting which brings together current fellows from the three institutions. Since a limited number of applicants can be submitted per graduate program the graduate program committee nominates the top candidates for this award, based upon their academic and research performance.
