The cooperative system of education, founded at the University of Cincinnati , enables students to expand their learning opportunities by an alternation of classroom study with paid, discipline and career-related work experiences. Cooperative education integrates theory learned in the classroom with hands-on experience practice in the workplace.
The administration of cooperative education programs at the University of Cincinnati is the responsibility of the Division of Professional Practice (DPP).
DPP faculty members, who have
a minimum of a Masters Degree plus field experience, work with both employers and students to arrange successful co-op placements.
The DPP faculty member teaches
students a course that helps prepare them to undertake co-op assignments, and advises them
on the selection of a co-op experience that matches their individual goals and interests. The DPP faculty member also reviews with each student s their assessment of the co-op assignment, and provides feedback to the student s on the company’s assessment of their performance.
Co-op work experience is an integral part of the BME program.
