Admission Requirements Admission to full-graduate standing requires a Bachelor's degree, or its equivalent. Admission is competitive and selective, and a limited number of students are admitted in each class. The best advice is to ensure that all materials arrive on time, to provide thoughtful and complete answers, and to arrange for letters of reference from individuals who can provide a written assessment of your capabilities and character. The department considers all application materials, although strengths in one area can sometimes make up for weaknesses in another. Nevertheless, the following are (italic)guidelines from successful past applicants: a total GRE score of 1800 or higher (verbal, quantitative and analytical), and at least a "B" average in relevant undergraduate course work (3.0 out of 4.0 point scale). For international applicants, the minimum total TOEFL score is 580. Certain CEE graduate programs have special admission requirements. The M.S. and Ph.D. degree programs in Civil Engineering require a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline, such as Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Architectural Engineering. The M.S. and Ph.D. degree programs in Environmental Engineering require a B.S. degree in any branch of engineering. The M.S. and Ph.D. degree programs in Environmental Science require a B.S. degree in any non-engineering discipline (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, or Physics) |
