Financial Aid

Financial Aid

All admitted applicants are automatically evaluated for financial assistance. Financial aid is available from the Department for full-time students and is awarded based on merit. Two types of financial aid are considered and offered separately. University Graduate Scholarship (UGS) awards pay full-time tuition expenses, and Graduate Teaching Assistantship (GTA) and Graduate Research Assistantship (GRA) awards pay a monthly stipend for general living expenses. Students with GTA or GRA awards assist the faculty in classroom, laboratory, and research activities, as an integral part of their graduate program. The department funds a large number of GTA/GRA awards (over 100 in a typical year), which pay stipends ranging from approximately $1,250-$1,600 per month, and are awarded for 9 to 12 month periods. This stipend amount will typically cover basic living requirements without the need for additional loans or other sources of funds. Our students are also helped financially by Cincinnati's moderate cost of living, compared with other metropolitan areas. In addition to the above GTA/GRA awards, special fellowships may also be available.
