Laboratories

The Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering maintains well-equipped teaching and research laboratory space in Baldwin and Rhodes Halls, the Engineering Research Center and the University of Cincinnati Center Hill Research Center. The department also maintains office space for all full-time graduate students, and full-time technicians are available to assist with development of research apparatus and instrumentation. The College also maintains a staffed, well-equipped, machine shop that is available for use by students who receive the proper training. Research computational facilities are widely available in laboratories maintained by the University, College, Department, and individual research groups.

Technicians and Laboratory Maintenance Help Available

The department employs three full-time technicians.  Two are expert machinists and one, an expert in hydraulic systems and designs, repairs and maintains the hydraulic systems.  Each laboratory has an assigned faculty member who oversees the laboratory as a service assignment.  The departmental computer specialist is responsible for servicing the computer hardware and software needs for the laboratories. Overall, repairs typically are made in-house on older equipment; repair of newer equipment is handled under existing warranties and service contracts.
