Structural System Testing Laboratory

Large-Scale Environmental Chambers

Director: Dr. Makram Suidan

Two 15’x15’large environmental chambers allow environmental conditioning and testing of large structural elements and segments of pavements under simultaneous actions of low and high temperature, UV exposure, and humidity.  The chambers can be connected to form a 15’x30’ chamber for larger specimens.  Digital controllers are programmed to produce simultaneous actions of UV lighting or darkness, humidity up to 100%, and cyclic temperature ranging between -4oF to 122oF.  The chambers are adjacent to Structural System Testing Laboratory; hence, specimens can be conditioned and tested in the same laboratory or taken to UC Large-Scale Testing Laboratory.
