Aerosol and Air Quality Laboratory

Director: Prof. Mingming Lu

Aerosol and Air Quality Laboratory is located at 791 ERC and is used for research in the areas of:

  • Submicron particle and PAH formation mechanisms from combustion processes
  • PAH and soot sampling
  • Development of particulate control technologies
  • Development of analytical methods for PAH identification

The laboratory is currently equipped with combustion simulation and product characterization systems in addition to general supplies. New equipment/instruments will be acquired soon to enhance the capabilities of this laboratory.

The iso-thermo reactor is capable of simulating oxidative and non-oxidative combustion processes of both real materials and pure compounds. It is equipped with custom designed inlets and outlets for various research purposes.

The Varian GC-MS is capable of analyzing various organic compounds and is a state-of-the-art instrument for air quality related research. Its cryogenic function allows for the detection of compounds with low boiling points.
