Laboratory Equipment:

The laboratory is fully equipped to produce and use microelectrodes in environmental research. These microelectrodes are typically 2-10 Fm in diameter (1/10th the diameter of a human hair) and can be used to measure dissolved oxygen, pH, ammonia, nitrate, sulfides and oxidation reduction potential in water. The lab contains multiple microscopes, micro-manipulators, micro-grinders, Faraday cages, an isolation table, and picoammeters for constructing and using microelectrodes. A cryogenic is available for slicing biofilms into approximately 10 F m thick slices for use in physical characterization (biofilm thickness, density, porosity, etc.).
