Areas of Proficiency; Areas of Concentration; and Certificates of Achievement

Introduction. A Baccalaureate degree in Civil Engineering represents a foundation of basic skills in science and math, a breadth of engineering fundamentals, proficiency in a core of discipline-specific topics, and pursuit of an area of concentration. The class-specific curriculum sheets are designed as a guide to your degree, while the list of available courses offered by the Department represents the breadth of opportunity used to tailor a program of study to meet a student's interest.

To complete your degree in Civil Engineering, each student needs to complete a series of courses providing competency in four areas of proficiency. To provide a degree of specialization in a particular area, students must also complete a series of courses in an area of concentration. Students who excel in their studies may wish to pursue additional recognition through a certificate of achievement acknowledging their performance in a particular area of Civil Engineering. A description of the areas of proficiency, the areas of concentration, and the requirements for certificates of achievement are provided below.
