Economic Development through Green Entrepreneurship (EDGE) at the University of Cincinnati (UC) is a public-private partnership with the purpose of creating green collar jobs through company formation.

The Ohio EDGE program asks Universities to activate their role in urban economic development by (1) leveraging the best students and ideas; (2) turning them into green-sector small businesses; and (3) growing those businesses locally.

EDGE is motivated by two realizations, namely:

  • successful cities incubate successful business by attracting and retaining creative individuals and establish a high economic metabolism characterized by a high idea velocity, and
  • successful universities provide access to creative individuals that cities need and generate ideas that drive economic development.

At present, EDGE leverages the model for economic stimulus promoted by the Federal government as outlined in the following graphic:
