Materials Engineering Summer Camp

The ASM Materials Education Foundation sponsored a Materials Camp^SM from June 20-24, 2005, at the University of Cincinnati. The summer camp was open to high school students entering their junior or senior year in Fall 2005 and included free meals, tuition, entertainment and knowledge. Professor Rodney Roseman served as Materials Camp Director.

Twenty-one students participated in the week-long camp which provided a team-based, problem solving science experience exploring materials science and engineering principles. Students learned about materials by disassembling various appliances such as toasters, cell phones, and laptops and identifying the components of ceramics, polymers, metals and composites. In addition, students participated in learning sessions, went on two field trips, and competed in an egg-drop contest.
