Welcome to Intelligent Systems Laboratory
Our mission is to advance industrial technology by developing techniques to effectively integrate human and computer systems in manufacturing and service environment. We believe computer systems are best used to assist rather than replace humans. In other words, we view computer systems as a tool to expand human perception and computation ability so humans can make better decisions. Therefore, we aim to develop easy to understand intelligent systems that employ a modeling process similar to that of human cognition including logic reasoning and learning from experience. Our research thrusts are:
· Knowledge-based modeling, which provides a theoretical foundation to develop intelligent systems.
· Supplier-based manufacturing, which aims to streamline original equipment manufacturers’ design and suppliers’ manufacturing activities based on a closed-loop process design philosophy.
· System monitoring, diagnosis, and prognosis, which aims to improve system performance through timely detection of impending faults and system bottlenecks.
Our motto is Scientific Innovation, Industry Outreach, and Student Success. We believe technology advance must be built on scientifically sound and mathematically rigorous innovations. Technologies developed in laboratory must be validated in real-world applications and ultimately transferred to industry to fully realize their benefits. Finally, we promote an experience-based education strategy that emphasizes the use of information technology, collaborative problem solving, and hands-on skills so students can be successful in the modern working environment.
