SIMPRO: Metrics-based Automated Factory Performance Diagnostics

SIMPRO facilitates the automated performance analysis of a manufacturing system by integrating a simulation tool, developed manufacturing system modeling technique and the Overall Throughput Effectiveness (OTE) metrics. The uniqueness of our methodology lies in modeling the manufacturing system using commonly occurring subsystems (Series, Parallel, Assembly, and Expansion) as the system modeling constructs to capture the equipment interconnectivity information. This approach not only achieves measuring ˇ°factory levelˇ± performance and but also aids in identifying hidden capacity i.e. perform diagnostics. By automating the production monitoring and diagnostics, factory professionals can rapidly evaluate the manufacturing system performance using the OTE metrics to point out what to improve, and how to improve. The database is created in Microsoft Access and the code is written in Microsoft Visual Basic 6.
