sorbents and membranes for the separation of biomolecules, including but not limited to proteins, peptides, Monoclonal Antibodies (MAbs), and oligonucleotides, to significantly extend current capabilities in both chromatographic and membrane bioseparations. The main scope of this proposal is to develop fundamental concepts for multifunctional molecular sieve-based bioseparations based on carefully selected probe biomolecules, functionalization chemistry and Mesoporous Molecular Sieve Silicates. This work is motivated by the unique characteristics of the SBA class of materials we have recently synthesized, including very high protein capacities, excellent adsorption kinetics, the capability for generating a wide range of surface functionalities, and the possibility for integrating size selectivity with adsorptive interactions.
