We educate civil and environmental engineers through a stimulating and supportive academic environment, reinforced with meaningful graduate research and undergraduate cooperative work experience. Our students are well versed in fundamental knowledge and problem solving abilities, and possess the technical, communication and interpersonal skills necessary for lifelong learning and productive careers in a rapidly changing world. Graduates of our programs acquire an integrated theoretical, design, and practical background, and are highly sought after by industry.

The undergraduate program in Civil Engineering and graduate program in Environmental Engineering are both fully accredited by ABET, the national Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. The graduate program in Environmental Engineering and science is ranked second in the nation by the Gourman Report (1995), and is listed consistently among the top 20 U.S. Environmental Engineering programs by the U.S. News and World Report rankings.

Admission requirements for ACCEND

Admission into ACCEND programs is competitive and limited. The programs are not able to accept all students who apply for ACCEND.

The application process is the same as for the traditional programs; individuals complete the admissions forms found at www.admissions.uc.edu and submit them for review. The ACCEND academic advisors will review the admissions information and select the candidates who best fit the profile of successful ACCEND students. Factors that are considered include:

• SAT and / or ACT test scores (averages for 2006 were 1310 (Math and Verbal) and 29 respectively)
• High School class rank (average for 2006 was top 10%)
• High School course work (including Physics, Chemistry, Pre-Calculus and / or Calculus) and performance in those classes
• AP Courses and advanced standing and performance in those courses (average for 2006 was 20 hours of college level credit)

What is the academic schedule for ACCEND?

In ACCEND, students take one distance-learning course during each of their first four regular Co-op assignments. In their last two Co-op periods, students become involved in laboratory research on campus. During their fifth year, students take the graduate courses necessary for conferral of an MS degree.
