Engineering - MBA ACCEND

BS Engineering and Master of Business Administration

Many businesses are looking for individuals who understand both the technology behind the business and the people who make the organization function. The combination of engineering knowledge and business skills is highly sought after by companies around the nation and the world. With UC's ACCEND programs you can get both plus professional experience that ties the two programs together. Students whose interests include starting a business or running a company should consider these programs.

What Programs Are Available?

The University of Cincinnati currently offers five programs that provide both an undergraduate degree in engineering and a master's degree in business administration. These are:

  • BS Aerospace Engineering / Masters of Business Administration
  • BS Chemical Engineering / Masters of Business Administration
  • BS Civil Engineering / Masters of Business Administration
  • BS Mechanical Engineering / Masters of Business Administration
  • BS Materials Engineering / Masters of Business Administration

How does this program work?

Like all of the engineering programs at UC, the MBA ACCEND is a five year program. Students take engineering courses their first three years. In the fourth and fifth years, you take a mix of engineering and business courses. Students participate in cooperative work assignments gaining professional experience and income and take courses through the web at the same time.

What kind of professional experience will I get?

You'll work in an engineering or research or production facility along side professionals. This is not work study but resume building experience. Co-op lets you alternate quarters of on-campus classroom and lab work with quarters of full-time, paid employment with engineering, design and research firms. Co-op is an integrated part of the engineering curriculum, so there is a strong, practical connection between what you learn in the classroom and the projects you'll work on during your Co-op assignments. You can find more information about co-operative education at http://www.uc.edu/propractice. Oh by the way, you'll earn over $40,000 while you're in school.

Admission requirements for ACCEND

Admission into ACCEND programs is competitive and limited. The programs are not able to accept all students who apply for ACCEND.

The ACCEND academic advisors will review the admissions information and select the candidates who best fit the profile of successful ACCEND students. Factors that are considered include:

  • SAT and / or ACT test scores (averages for 2006 were 1310 (Math and Verbal) and 29 respectively)
  • High School class rank (average for 2006 was top 10%)
  • High School course work (including Physics, Chemistry, Pre-Calculus and / or Calculus) and performance in those classes
  • AP Courses and advanced standing and performance in those courses (average for 2006 was 20 hours of college level credit)
