Eudora
(Electronic Mail Reader)
About Eudora
Eudora Pro is an E-mail software package for Windows and Macintosh which
makes it easy for you to exchange e-mail and files with other computer
users on campus and around the world. Eudora is a "POP" client, Post Office
Protocol software that sends and fetches mail via corresponding server
software on the Bearcat® Online (and other) servers. Using this program,
you can do your interactive work, such as composing messages, on your Windows
PC, which allows you greater flexibility and access to more features than
those available on many larger machines. Eudora supports the use of mailboxes
for saving mail, aliases in an Address
Book for frequently mailed people, as well as filtering
for incoming mail.
Starting up Eudora
Before running Eudora on an NT machine, make sure your My Documents folder
is connected. On the College of Engineering machines,
Eudora is
started by double-clicking on the icon for it, under the
Internet Applications
menu.
Eudora will save all incoming mail into a mailbox called
in.mbox
on your My Documents folder. Outgoing mail that you've sent will be saved
in a mailbox file called
out.mbox. Finally, mail that you've sent
to the trash will be temporarily saved in a mailbox file called
trash.mbox.
All of these files are saved onto your My Documents folder and are accessible
via the
File Manager as well.
Once Eudora starts up, the main screen will be displayed with
a menu bar across the top. Along the left hand window will be a list of
your mailboxes, and the large right hand window will be where messages
are displayed as they are read. The menu options listed across the top
should be File, Edit, Mailbox, Message, Transfer, Special, Tools, Window
and Help. On the left should be at least an IN box, OUT
box, and TRASH box.
