Required by Academic Program
Pre-junior Mechanical Engineering students are required to have the Student Edition of MATLAB installed on their
portables for their pre-junior year.
The Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering and Computer Science requires ECECS students to own a portable computer with a "dual boot" operating system environment with both Windows XP Pro and Linux. ECECS students should have Windows XP Pro installed on their portable. Assistance will be provided by the department to help students install a dual boot Linux environment. ECECS students are also required to have Star Office installed in the Linux partition of their portable computer. Star Office is available for download at no charge.
Note: Microsoft
Office is required as part of the minimum portable system. An add-on cost of
more than $150 is usually required to purchase the license from the hardware
vendor. This application is available
at no charge to U.C. students through a contract between State of Ohio
Universities and Microsoft. Students
should purchase a portable computer without Microsoft Office. Students should
obtain the media for Microsoft Office as described in information about U.C.'s
Microsoft Software Contract http://mscontract.uc.edu/ and install the software themselves.
