- Vehicle Operation Safety Policy

- Each employee driving a University vehicle must possess a valid
driver's license and will be held responsible for its safe and
legal operation on and off campus. No driver shall
transport either people or material in his/her vehicle until
s/he sees that the following conditions are met:
- All material is properly secured so it will not roll, slide or fall while in transit;
- Passengers riding in the rear are seated in the truck bed or on seats
specifically provided for carrying passengers;
- There are no more than three persons, including the driver in the cab of the truck;
- Materials extending beyond the end or sides of the vehicle are properly identified with warning flags;
- Riders are not permitted to get on or off a moving vehicle, nor to ride with arms, feet or legs
extending over the sides or ends of the vehicle;
- Employees should use seat belts where provided;
- The designated driver shall be responsible for the following:

-Power steering fluid |
-belts |
| -radiator coolant level |
-automatic transmission fluid |
-battery water |
| -tire pressure |
-lights and reflectors |

- All low fluid levels and/or broken belts shall be reported and repaired as soon as possible.
- All repairs, adjustments, or modifications of any vehicle must be approved by the supervisor, and repairs, adjustments requested by an ASD designated driver. A "Driver's Request for Repairs" must be completed with supervisor's signature. These forms are available in the shop areas and in the glove compartments.
- When picking up a vehicle after repairs, the driver shall check the vehicle, obtain key, and
sign the release on the repair order.
- Recurring problems shall be brought to the attention of
the Manager of Transportation Services.
- University vehicles are permitted to park in white stalls only. Do
not park in blue handicapped stalls or in yellow fire lanes.
- All vehicles will be locked and parked in their designated stall or areas.
- Drivers will be held responsible for parking and traffic violations or fines assessed while
operating a University vehicle.
- In case of accident please refer to the letter from the Department of Transportation Services in the glove compartment. If towing is necessary during
operation hours contact the Department of Transportation Services, otherwise the supervisor has the authority
to contact a towing company.
- You may not ride in or drive a University vehicle unless
authorized to do so.
- Non-University employees are not permitted to ride in or drive a University vehicle unless authorized by
Management. The only exception would be contractors, consultants, etc., who would ride in a University vehicle which has been authorized by Management.
- When notified by Transportation Services for a vehicle to be taken to the garage for routine general maintenance, the designated driver must comply. If
another vehicle is needed for operations during this period, arrangements must be made through the supervisor.
- The use of Walkman radios during the operation of a University vehicle is prohibited.
