Engineering Tribunal to Hold Record Breaking Career Fair

Over 100 engineering companies are signed up to attend the 2008 Engineering Career Fair, making it one of the largest engineering specific Career Fairs in the nation. The Engineering Tribunal, which puts on the fair, is very excited about the event’s success and expects that still more companies will sign up before the Career Fair on October 16.

The Engineering Career Fair will be Thursday, October 16, from 10am-4pm in Fifth Third Arena. Students who attend should dress in professional attire and expect to interact with several business representatives seeking qualified students. There will be companies representing every field of engineering and a wide cross section of industries, offering students the opportunity to investigate a variety of career choices. Many companies will interview students met at the Career Fair on campus on Friday, October 17.

“Just four years ago,” Tribunal president and computer engineering senior Sean McCabe recalled, “our engineering Career Fair had only 40 companies attending”. McCabe is co-chair of the committee that plans the Career Fair and has devoted many hours to the success of this year’s function.

With 100 companies and several hundred co-op and full time jobs open for placement, this event is a huge resource for any engineering student. The event’s benefit is even more important for engineering students who must complete co-op as a mandatory part of their curriculum.

Given the event’s exponential growth, last year, it moved to the Fifth Third Arena from its former location in the Great Hall. “Fifth Third Arena was the only possible location to host this event,” says Tim Janek, a junior in mechanical engineering and co-chair of the Career Fair committee. “Corporations have responded tremendously to this year’s event. We are grateful for the many sponsors and attending companies.”
