Eta Kappa Nu (or HKN) is an honor society devoted to recognizing and promoting excellence in the fields of electrical and computer engineering. Maurice L. Carr, along with nine other students at the University of Illinois, founded Eta Kappa Nu on October 28, 1904. A far more extensive history is available here at HKN’s official site.

Currently, the organization has about 200 chapters with 250,000 members. The University of Cincinnati founded the Tau Chapter of HKN on May 26, 1923.
