OriginTau Beta Pi is the national engineering honor society. It was founded in 1885 at Lehigh University by Dr. Edward H. William Jr. because he wished to recognize students of distinguished scholarship and exemplary character. The organization sponsors projects which emphasize the Society's objectives--recognizing outstanding engineering students and professionals and encouraging the interests of engineers in non-technical fields, the college, and the community. Chapter HistoryThe Ohio Beta chapter of Tau Beta Pi was installed on November 26, 1915 at the University of Cincinnati, in Cincinnati, Ohio. It was the thirtieth chapter to be installed into Tau Beta Pi, a little more than thirty years after the organization was established. Since that time, Ohio Beta has played an important role in the continued success of Tau Beta Pi. First and foremost in its success has been its continued effort to honor outstanding individuals in the field on engineering. To date, Ohio Beta has initiated over 3,200 individuals into Tau Beta Pi. This includes many outstanding faculty members in the college of engineering. Ohio Beta has hosted the national convention of Tau Beta Pi four times, most recently in 1975. A highlight of the 1975 convention was the initiation of Professor Neil Armstrong of the Aerospace Engineering Department into Tau Beta Pi as an Eminent Engineer. More recently, there have been five members of Ohio Beta , T.K. Lenehan (OH B '86), D.N. Bryan (OH B '87), M. Schweizer (OH B '95), Michael J. Banach (OH B '99), and Gregory T. Garay (OH B '99) selected to receive the coveted Tau Beta Pi Graduate Fellowship. Please Direct Questions/Comments/Suggestions to Mike Hutson. Best Viewed at 800x600.
