COURSES DEVOTED TO THE NANOSCALENanotechnology is a rapidly growing field in which engineers and scientists control materials and devices at the atomic and molecular scales. A listing of courses devoted to nanoscale science and technology is given below.
Of particular interest are two new NSF-funded interdisciplinary courses in Nanoscale Science and Technology, intended for Engineering, Physics, and Chemistry undergraduate students: Winter Lecture: ENFD 278 Introduction to Nanoscale Science & Technology An introduction to nanoscience and nanotechnology for undergraduate engineering and science students: Nanoparticles, nanoelectronics, nanophotonics, nanobioscience, and societal and ethical implications. (Winter Quarter: MWF 12 -1 pm) Prereq: Two quarters of university physics or chemistry, two quarters of calculus. Spring Laboratory: ENFD 279 Experimental Nanoscale Science & Technology A laboratory experience for engineering and science students, covering the synthesis and characterization of nanostructures and the simple devices that can be made from them: carbon nanotube synthesis, nanotube sensor fabrication and characterization, quantum dot characterization, and gold nanoparticle fabrication and characterization. (Spring Quarter: M 2 - 6 pm). |
