As part of the Green Cincinnati Plan, in 2009 the City of Cincinnati launched the Cincinnati Urban Farm initiative recruiting citizens and community groups to partner with the City to develop urban farms using vacant City property.

The University of Cincinnati assembled a multi-disciplinary team of students, faculty, and administrative staff to participate in the pilot program. UC was selected to operate City parcel #6 located at 2291 Westwood Northern Blvd (CAGIS image) (Google map location).

The UC Urban Farm aims to:

  • explore the business model of urban farming,
  • reduce the green house gas footprint of the institution by growing and consuming local produce,
  • provide leadership to the pilot program,
  • partner UC with the Westwood Neighborhood Community.

The UC Urban Farm has financial support from the UC Center for Sustainable Urban Environments as well as the National Science Foundation.
