1) Describe at least one thing you like about this course or professor

  • 1. he understands the material of the course completely. 2. writing lab reports is a very good learning tool, much better then taking tests.

  • Dr. Beaucage allowed me to use my personal and professional engineering/scientific skills throughout the course. He clearly recognized, and even advocated, the different approach inductry may take to addressing or solving a problem.

  • I wish the lab are arranged better in advance. It's better not to change the characterization lab course into a repairing lab of instruments.

  • The Professor is the best instructor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Even in the College of Engineering and University scales. You know, he has instructed all of courses, Polymer Analysis, Polymer Characterization, Polymer Morphology, Polymer Processing, etc., all of which are the best courses in this department and make us learn a lot. For more important, these courses will make us get a job more easier than other majors, you have to admit this. He is the best professor who cares about what students needs and would like to improve his instruction with highest responsibility while I find other professors do not like to improve themselves after they got tenure. I can prove that Dr. Beaucage is the best professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, and he deserve a ward or an honor of his excellent teaching. I have not found who can be better than Dr. Beaucage. He is the promising and potential scientific researcher and professor for UC.

  • The course is very relevant to polymer characterization. The professor is really understanding and will help you when needed.

  • helped me to learn more about the instruments and their practical application.

  • the professors knowledge about the course.

  • this course gives opportunity to learn the operation of most of the characterisation equipments which are used in the characterisation of materials.

    2) Describe at least one improvement you feel would benefit this course or professor.

  • 1. i really felt that performing the experiments ourselves would have been better then just using data off of the web. it might have accomplished the same ends for analysis, but not for characterization. sample preperation is a very important part of testing and i know i wouldn't have an idea about how to make up a sample for NMR, for example. 2. I think that the university needs to invest more money in keeping the existing laboratory working. i understand that it is hard to afford to buy the latest greatest equipment. but to not have a DSC to use is really rediculus. it is a fundimental test in the analysis of materials. part of a university's responsibily is education and without working laboratory equipment that is hindered. i know that there is no real use complaining about this because you can't do anything about it, but i still wanted you to know my thought on the issue.

  • I believe the course might benefit from having available some of the important (and standard) equipment employed in the polymer manufacturing industry - especially that which is related to rheology analysis. However, I am well aware of the associated cost.

  • Lab planning and organization in advance.

  • Sometimes the professor needs to be more clear when helping people. He sort of goes off in a tangent sometimes. THERE SHOULD NOT BE A LAB ASSIGNED TO THIS CLASS UNLESS IT BECOMES 4 CREDIT HOURS. This is entirely too much work for too little credit.

  • The course will be better if the professor explain in a little more detailed manner of the material before starting to to the lab .

  • The labs and the instruments used to carry out the experiments have to improve. Most of them dont work.

  • change the lab--some questions asked in it are not possible to answer as we have not done it.

    3) If your answer to any question between #1 and #17 was `D' or `E', please identify the question number and explain why.
