Subject Spellbook Merchant Visits Crossing! (121)

Spellbooks are, at very last, live in game!

The Wizard Vhiskaar has opened a shop in the Crossing Warrior Mage guild -- up the stairs from Gauthus, then up again. Spellbooks will remain exclusive to Warrior Mages for at least two weeks, at which time the shop will open to other guilds.

There are two types of spellbooks:

Basic spellbooks are simple fluff props, and cost but a few platinum. These books have the full range of roleplay-oriented verbs available, but do not carry spell lists or the ability to customize with anything else from the shop, except for spellbook cases (does not include chains or harnesses). Basic spellbooks are sold off of the bookshelf in each Guild's alcove.

Custom spellbooks are much more expensive. They have full spell lists for the profession they were created for, the capability to write small notes on each individual spell's page, and ability to add many plugins from the spellbook shop to customize it to your liking. There are so many possibilities that each spellbook could potentially be unique. There are a couple surprise features to custom spellbooks that i'll allow to be discovered by players. Custom spellbooks may be created by stepping through a given portal (a platform, for Warrior Mages) in each guild's alcove.

A few words of warning. READ CAREFULLY:

1) Custom spellbooks are keyed to their creator. Do NOT make a custom spellbook to give/sell to someone else, as this person will not be able to make full use of it. Basic spellbooks off-the-rack are not keyed, and can be freely distributed as such.

2) Spellbook verbs do NOT work unless you are of the profession the book was designed for. Thieves mimicking the proper profession will be able to use the verbs, however. Barbarians also have a couple (cough) fun verbs that work specifically for them.

3) READ THE SIGNS. There are a lot of signs. They're there for your benefit. Read them. Multiple times. Exponential even. There are no refunds!

4) Spellbooks can be damaged by jostling around in inappropriate containers, being out in the rain or snow, or through the abuse of a couple nasty verbs. It is suggested that you buy a spellbook case to protect your investment BEFORE you purchase a spellbook.

And with that, have fun exploring the workshop!
