Reading List:
Robert W. Lenz, Organic Chemistry of Synthetic High Polymers,
Interscience Publishers, NYNY 1967 (This is an indispensable book that tells you
how to make almost any polymer despite the publication date.) If you want
to make a polymer this is the first (and usually the only) place to look.)
Like most classic books it seems to foresee the important areas of the field
even 40 years later!! All other texts on polymer chemistry are basically
copies of this book.
Paul Flory Polymer Chemistry By the nobel laurate in polymer
chemistry this is best known for the physical chemistry parts such as the Flory-Huggins
theory and Flory-Rehner Elasticity theory, Flory-Fox glass transition theory,
and Flory (everything else about polymers theories) This is the
bible of polymer science. It contains some useful polymer chemistry.
All general polymer science books published after this were copies of
this book.

Whole Grades Only, Grading: 100-90.0 A; 89.9-80.0 B; 79.9-70.0 C; 69.9-60.0 D
Grading will involve 9 quizzes given during the last half hour of Monday's class including the first Monday and a mandatory and comprehensive final exam that is of the length and value of 3 weekly quizzes which will be given during finals week on the assigned day.
In addition to the weekly quizzes there will be opportunities to replace quiz grades with projects outside of class. There will be no make-up quizzes so that if a quiz is missed an outside project will be required to replace a 0 grade. Due dates will be assigned to the outside projects. Some of the outside projects will have a value greater than one quiz.
